Scariest Horror Movies Of All Time

Happy Halloween! I’m actually running out of horror movies to watch these days because there’s just too many of them  yet only 2 out 10 is scary enough most of the time to cause me sleepless nights. Franken-tastic

Halloween is coming up so I guess it’s just fitting to talk about scary stuff such as movies.

A haunted house in Winchester...

Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built is not due to hit the theaters until February next year 2018 and I can’t wait. I’ve read about the Winchester house long before and I never thought a movie will be brewing many years later. Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built is based on a true story about one of the most haunted places in the world, the Winchester house located in northern California and I find the trailer is scary enough to entice horror movie fans like myself. I do not know the full  story behind the Winchester house but as far as I know it was inhabited by malevolent spirits and the owner wanted to confuse them that’s why she had stairs built leading nowhere and tons of doors oddly constructed serving no purpose. I think I might’ve seen it on TV (Ripley’s Believe It Or Not as far as I can remember) and I was perplexed because the house was massive, what a waste of space and money to turn it into something totally unusable. I still cannot wrap my head around the concept up until now really because spirits levitate in the first place and is able to pass through walls so the idea of confusing them is useless. Anyways, I’m just squeamish to know how the movie will turn out.

Speaking of horror movies, I’m thinking of making a dedicated blog to list down my favorite horror movies/recommended horror flicks of all time. For now let me share a couple of my faves.

THE CRUCIFIXION (2017)
British-Romanian Horror Film
(True Story)
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Father Dmitru and the four nuns present were sentenced seven years in prison for the death of a nun after a failed exorcism in Romania. This movie reminds me of this equally scary flick The Exorcism of Emily Rose which also resulted to the death of a person. The nun became depressed after seeing one of the elderly priests committed suicide by jumping off the monastery’s rooftop and later on started behaving oddly (talking in tongues, talking to no one etc.) reminiscent of a person being possessed by evil spirits. She died during an exorcism ritual which then led to the priest’s incarceration for murder.

Nicole Rawlins, a journalist, who also happened to be a skeptic and an atheist flew all the way to Romania to investigate on the murder. Nicole, while investigating the sensational case also experienced creepy and peculiar things which she herself found inexplicable. She became acquainted with Father Anton who told her she’s very susceptible to demonic possession because she doesn’t have faith in God which will serve as her only ammunition against evil spirits. True enough Nicole was  possessed by an evil spirit and Father Anton did a successful exorcism ritual on her.

The movie ended with Nicole looking at a photo of her and possibly her sister before she leave Romania (which made me conclude could be the possible reason why she became a skeptic, something tragic might’ve happened in the past which triggered her pessimism although this is  just my assumption since the ending was quite a cliffhanger). The Crucifixion by far is one of the best horror movies I’ve seen in a while after countless nonsense Hollywood horror movies in such a long period of time. It was dark and non-pretentious creepy. It did not lurk behind scary movie trailers just to be disappointed in the end once you see the actual film. Not as scary as Insiduous but it’s worth watching. To check out the real story behind this movie please go here.

The Others (2001)
Spanish-American supernatural gothic horror film
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Nicole Kidman as Grace Stewart - a devout catholic; mother of Anne & Nicholas
  • Alakina Mann as Anne Stewart
  • James Bentley as Nicholas Stewart
  • Fionnula Flanagan as Bertha Mills
  • Elaine Cassidy as Lydia
  • Eric Sykes as Edmund Tuttle

The story began post WWII, Grace hired Bertha Mills, Lydia and Edmund as helpers in her humongous house. During the tour of the house Bertha was perplexed why Grace demand all the doors shut/locked one after the other and all curtains drawn. According to Grace her kids Anne and Nicholas are badly allergic to sunlight thus explains why she wants all curtains drawn because they are having rashes once exposed to sun beams. Grace, a devout Catholic, home-schooled and teaches both her kids herself. Grace’s husband is a soldier who hasn’t come home in years.

Anne often scares Nicholas because she’s fond of telling stories about ghosts and as punishment Grace would often ask her to read the bible for misbehaving. Anne also often talks about Victor, a ghost of a little boy who wants them to leave because he claims his family own the house which Grace of course would often dismiss until series of peculiar things started happening which drove her crazy such as strange noises, doors left ajar, music from the piano even if there's no one there etc. The final straw which jarred Grace’s sanity was when her kids woke up one day with all the curtains dismantled. Grace ended up firing all of her helpers because no one would like to take accountability for what happened.

Fast forward,  I was under the impression the whole time that Grace, her kids and her helpers were amongst the living just to be jolted in the end to find they already perished from Tuberculosis and that ‘the others’ pertains to them being the ghosts who exist alongside the living. I also found that Victor (the little boy Anne is pertaining to) was the son of the new house owners. Bertha in the end also divulged to Grace she’s been waiting for the chance to tell her about what happened but she was afraid Grace won’t accept the truth so she just let things unfold on its own. The film ended wth Victor’s family leaving and the house will be eventually ‘for sale’ again.

I thought this film was brilliant because it was written from a ghost’s perspective which is not very common since most scary movies are written from the accounts of the living which is often biased.  What also made the film scary was when it incorporated non-fiction stuff to it such as veracity of those creepy post mortem photographs during the Victorian era. I also read before out of curiosity at one point with post mortem photography that, such dreadful photographs cost a fortune (sounds  even more dingbat to me).  Anyways, The Others scared me to my wits as much as The Sixth Sense.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️  - highly recommended
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️      - somewhat highly recommended
⭐️⭐️⭐️          - it was alright.
⭐️⭐️              - nah.
⭐️                  - waste of time.

Rainy Day Gloom

Have a whimsical Sunday y'all. 🌬
no bake cupcakes made from
pancake batter.
I prefer rainy over sunny days when I was still down south because of the  rain's whimsical power to purge the muggy feeling brought about by the extremely hot temperature. Here up north, I badly miss the sun when the rainy days seem infinite, everything is cold and damp and humid. The excessive rain and cold temperature invites mold and gloom which I am not really happy about. The plants need sunlight and so do I because I thrive on moderate climates, not so warm and not so cold. Rainy days however stirs me to write/blog more, do a lot of crafting and baking. Recently, I made this no bake cake topped with white chocolate and rainbow sprinkles just by using a stove top. It was a challenge though but an excellent de-stressing activity.

Adopt don’t shop.
My sibs and I decided to take in another dog few days ago, a terrier mix female. To date we have four dogs: one six year old shitzu mix, a senior female terrier and her offspring which is half stray and half terrier, a two year old german shepherd. In addition to that we also have one male ginger tomcat which we also took in five years ago. Newbie doggie was originally our neighbor’s dog and was outside for the most part living like a stray because the family she was with prior isn't really ready to have a dog (and why did they take her in the first place right?). If I’m not mistaken, she’s barely a year old when she gave birth to a litter roughly a month ago and was impregnated by another ‘stray living’ neighbor dog because she wasn’t neutered.

Love thy pet...
it’s never ok to let your dog live like a stray if you already took them in because you’re supposed to take care of them, keep them safe and all, outside is not a safe place for a any domesticated animal. Putting a collar around their necks doesn’t give them immunity neither against impounders. Here in the country, some pet owners no longer attempt to retrieve their dog or cat once impounded because they don't want to pay to get them back considering mostly it's out of negligence in the first place. Let me just state this as a reminder, once you get a dog, it’s your responsibility as pet owner to provide them shelter, food, have them spayed and take care of them because they don’t have any other family but you that’s why it enrages me why some people even dare own a pet just to neglect them in the long run. She was kept inside her owner’s house for a while because she had puppies but as soon as they’re eating solid food and have been assigned to their forever homes, she’s outside living like a stray again and we just had enough so we offered to adopt her. She is a very friendly and happy dog and her happiness is contagious. Even if you see her every second of every day she'll give  you the same energetic  welcome as if you were out the whole day by wagging her tail tirelessly lol. We decided to groom her during her first day with us, fed her, bathed her diminishing fur and removed  the ticks from her now scrawny body. Any animal lover would do the same if you used to see her pretty then bald and malnourish the next. Our project is to feed her, give her some honeybee  (it's a natural anti-biotic according to the vet) and shower her with TLC so she grows her fur back soon.

So far, she peed on our carpets and poo-d inside the house but nevertheless I think she’s pretty trainable since she seemed a smart dog. Just a piece of advise, animals are family too, they're like babies, they need a lot of attention and taking care of especially dogs. If you don't want to own a high maintenance pet then better own a cat because they sleep a lot, just make sure you research first before you even consider owning any pet per se. You love them as puppies and neglect them when they're older. Might as well buy a stuffed toy not a pet if you cannot commit to take care of them.

Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall.

photo from Pinterest
October.

"The sweet calm sunshine of October, now Warms the low spot; upon its grassy mold
The purple oak-leaf falls; the birchen bough drops its bright spoil like arrow-heads of gold."
- William Cullen Bryant

It’s couple of months to go before Christmas and I already started my eBay holiday shopping spree to avoid my parcels getting stuck at the post office. I realized I don’t want to spend so much time thinking what to give people for Christmas so this time around I’ll just get the rest from the nearest Japan Home store lol. Honestly, Japan Home really have tons of useful and quirky items on hand if you need a last minute gift. I remember back in the days, people clamor to Gift Gate or Blue Magic to purchase Christmas prezzies because everyone just love stuft toys, ceramic angel decors, snow balls, pillows etcetera. Nowadays, the last quarter of the year is the busiest for online shops because people would rather buy stuff online (like myself) than hog Divi or the malls since it’s safer and more convenient that way. In addition to that, you also elude pickpockets and possible unfortunate events that may happen in crowded places.

Moving on, time for DIY projects. If you want a personalized gift and is feeling crafty, go ahead and make one.

🌺  DIY Project #1
Cat Throw Pillow

Materials:
  • crocheting yarn
  • old sweater
  • big needle
  • sewing thread
  • old pillow
  • tailor’s chalk (optional)

Steps:
  1. Cut off the sweater sleeves and sew the open hemlines. Stuff your diy sweater pillow case first with an old pillow before completely stitching everything together.
  2. Draw a cat face on your pillow using a tailor’s chalk (optional). I made my running stitch directly onto the pillow without any guide and I found it much more difficult that way.
  3. Stitch the tassels to your pillow. You may just stitch them on the edges or adorn the rest of your pillow with tassels whichever you prefer, be creative.
🌺  DIY Project #2

Rustic Hanging Decor

This is a very free flowing project. You may create your hanging decor as you please. I initially thought of making a triangular hanging decor but changed my mind last minute because I don’t want to use glue gun for this project.

Materials:
  • jute twine
  • sea shells
  • 3 pieces of twigs (same length)
Steps:
  1. Position your twigs the way you want them to look before you start knotting your jute twine.
  2. Start knotting your twine in such a way it would hold the shells.
  3. Make multiple knots if needed to make your hanging decor as sturdy and wind resistant as possible. I decided to use couple of twigs on the second layer because the shells are quite heavy for a single twig to hold.
🌺  DIY Project #3

the puddytat and his new diy collar
Pet Tag

Materials:
  • plastic key tags id label
  • scissors
  • sewing thread
  • bond paper
  • printer
Steps:
  1. On Microsoft Word, insert a 1.73 cm x 3.51 cm text box. Make sure there's a solid line on the outer corners of your text box as this will serve as a guide in cutting out the label. (double click your text box to show options > under 'shape options', click the 'solid line' radio button > select your solid line color).
  2. Inside the text box just type in the following:
line 1: your pet's name
line 2: your home address (optional)
line 3: your contact number.

bought the key tags from National
Bookstore which was 15pcs./pack
3. Print the label you just made on a short bond paper and cut it out following the text box's border line as guide.
4. Insert the cut out in the plastic key tag id label. Make sure to remove the keyring.
5. Sew both ends of the plastic key id label to the collar and you're done.

Pros:
  • The pet tag stays even if your pet move a lot since it's stitched to the collar and it doesn't dangle.
  • No risk of losing the tag.
Cons:
  • You have to take the collar off come bath time to avoid it from getting soaked since it's made from paper.
  • In case you need to replace/update the details on the tag, you have to remove the stitches and sew it back again.

Take me away.
I feel like I disappear every time I read a book because I get too caught up reading them that’s why I prefer to read during wee hours in the morning or late in the evening to avoid distractions. I’m currently stoked reading Sophia Amoruso’s #GIRLBOSS because first off it’s addicting since it’s very straightforward and entertaining. Second, you will learn a lot from Sophia herself money management wise if you’re looking to become an entrepreneur someday. Anyways, i’ll blog about it once finished. I’m actually more than halfway.

Freak Shakes..
I kind of noticed that "freak shakes" or  those quirky milk shakes topped with rainbow sprinkles, chocolate syrup, ice cream etc. is becoming more and more famous these days. I remember having seen them first on BuzzFeed and thought what a clever idea to infuse the idea of milkshake and dollops of ice cream on top then dazzle it like there's some kind of party going on. I thought it was rather unique at first until it has turned into a fad and finding a cafeteria that serves them is now as easy as 1,2,3. Yeah they're totally cute and Instagram worthy. Careful on the sugar though, a jar contains roughly 2,000-2,500 calories. 😜
