christmas is fast approaching and you can tell by the cool wind breeze. i can feel a cold coming again. i often look forward to christmas because of christmas presents. one of my most memorable christmas was way back when i was still 6-7 years old. we're not allowed to open our presents underneath the christmas tree until 12 midnight or we won't get another one the year after lol. we used to celebrate christmas the typical filipino way where we would attend the 'simband gabi' (midnight mass) which commences the 16th of december until christmas day. after the simbang gabi we would buy bibingka or puto bungbong (only available during christmas season) unlike nowadays you could buy bibingka even if it's not christmas. my parents are very traditional people and they brought us up that way. the tradition wavered as years went by. i guess it's because as we grew older we spent less and less time together. being the youngest in the family, my twin sister and i saw how the family tradition seemed forgotten.
let me just share when i was in kindergarten, my sister and i were conned to believe that santa claus visited us and was responsible for the candies in our socks hanging by the window. our parents never admitted up until now lol. it's so refreshing to go back and reminisce those days. life was simple yet full of surprises. those days you yearn for simple things and simple joys, nothing money could buy. it's eighteen days to go before christmas! my wish for christmas? a fruit cake lol. seriously, that's what i always wish for every year. call it crazy, but i love fruit cakes lol.
