work, food, church, boxing, etcetera, my so called 'life..'

the past week was really toxic at work and god knows how i hate being stumped in my  workstation. anyways, i went to quiapo church this morning to hear mass. that'll be my commitment from now on not because i need something from god. i'll go to church every sunday because i need to keep my lines with God open.

here's today's gospel..

Luke 9: 51 - 62 When the days for Jesus’ being taken up were fulfilled, he resolutely determined to journey to Jerusalem, and he sent messengers ahead of him. On the way they entered a Samaritan village to prepare for his reception there, but they would not welcome him because the destination of his journey was Jerusalem. When the disciples James and John saw this they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to consume them?” Jesus turned and rebuked them, and they journeyed to another village. As they were proceeding on their journey someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” Jesus answered him, “Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head.” And to another he said, “Follow me.” But he replied, “Lord, let me go first and bury my father.” But he answered him, “Let the dead bury their dead. But you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” And another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but first let me say farewell to my family at home.” To him Jesus said, “No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left behind is fit for the kingdom of God.”

gospel explained

Abandoning Jesus is the easy way out, remaining faithful to Him takes courage, strength, character, integrity, and perseverance. Jesus had to face all that came with being the Messiah, and we have to follow suit and face all that comes with being a disciple living in the time and place we live. Any one of us might be given devastating news tomorrow or be forced to choose between Jesus the easy way out. Like Jesus, we must face these trials and tribulations with fidelity, faith, hope, and love. Being faithful is not the easy way out. Having faith is not the easy way out. Living in hope is not the easy way out. And certainly loving is not the easy way out. Jesus was “resolutely determined to journey to Jerusalem” that last time to face a certain and foreknown arrest, suffering, and death. We need to be just as “resolutely determined to journey to [the new and eternal] Jerusalem” despite the many unpleasant knowns and unknowns that lie ahead in our future. We will be tempted to take any number of easy ways out to avoid our tribulations, but these easy ways out change the destination of our journey. Indeed, he who opts to depart the journey to heaven to take the easy way out is unlikely to be “fit for the kingdom of God.”
